    hi guys.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong thread.

I have been offered a new car but im in 2 minds so i need the help of you great motor heads.

I will be as accurate as i can so you get the jist of the position im in.

I own a vauxhall astra cdti sri 2.0 in white
Its done 59000 miles its a 2011 plate
The inside of the car is imaculate looks brand new the outside of the car has a few very minor scruffs here there hardly noticable id say body is 8.5 out of 10 with 10 being show room new.

Iv been offered a vauxhall astra GTC 1.4i 2012 start/stop eco in shell mineral colour which is like a greyish/bluey/white thats done 44000 miles for my car with a grand on top.

The body of the gtc is a solid 9.5 out of 10 the inside not as great id say 8 out of 10 mine does look abit newer an cleaner this has few little scruffs here an there nothing major. The gtc has 18 inch alloys and dab radio and usb which i see as bonuses for me.

Both cars have 2 owners and full service history.

Looks wise it obviously look more sportier i think i still prefer my 5 spoke alloys than the gtc's but would you guys see this as an upgrade or not is this worth my while as my doubts is mostly due to engine wise.

Any help would be great on this could be an early xmas present to myself or could be the worst decision iv make by going for it.

    Thanks in advance

Maybe a good idea to get the diesel gone. Due to the government about to bully us to not have them in a year or two.
Due to mileage on the one you are thinking about, It's not an upgrade. Just an update.

Hi fred i havent just yet was hoping to give it a little test drive on the weekend hes saving the car for me as its a friend whos come across it and isnt in a rush to sell, the insude looks pretty much similar but going from 165bhp to 118hp is abit worrying, any idea if it will have a kick to it, a small test run still wouldnt be able to tell how i will get on with it in the long run, iv read the petrol 1.4 engines are abit weak and have issues any idea if this is true ?

    Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I know what you mean but would you say its a update in a good way ? I cant see diesels completly being off the road anytime soon anyway, value wise and for the long run which would you think im better off keeping and investing my money in ?

Hmm maybe it's not going to have the same oomph as your present motor if it's the 118bhp version , the 1.4 turbocharged engine was available in 2 power outputs the one you've been offered or the 138 bhp version . The 138 bhp engine propels the GTC to a 0-62mph time of 9.0secs which is comparable to your 165bhp diesel Astra , so on reflection I'd give the car a miss & wait until a 138bhp 1.4 became available or even the 1.6 turbocharged engine .

    Thanks for the feedback :)

I think you might just be right to give it a miss then, for me to be honest it was the colour i fell for plus genrally moving from a 5 door astra to a more sporty car with just £1000 to put on top sounded great, i do alot more local driving rather than motorway driving.

Do you think maybe a remap would help or is it not really worth the hastle ?

It is a bad time to look for a car im not really in a rush unless something came my way as a part ex.

You could remap the engine but I'd rather wait for a genuine unmolested 138 bhp model or a 1.6 engined model . If your present motor is running sweet I'd keep it for a bit longer.

I hear you, an yeah does make sense, generally what do you think of the gtc's anyway ? iv no kids so dont really need a 5 door, would you say the gtc is generally better then the astra 5 door hatchback like mine? is it something i should look to get next i dont know much about the gtc other than it looks like a sport version of mine, As a car and value wise, durability and perfomance is it a car worth having ? I really do like my vauxhall hence i dont think id want any else other than a vauxhall at the minuite and do prefer smaller hatchbacks rather than saloons.
