I just did a quick and partial change on the auto box on my 2 litre Omega. I removed the fill plug in the rear sump and was able to suck it almost dry with an oil extraction kit. It took just under 2 litres of fresh oil before it was full again. I guess changing 1/4 of the oil each time, say once per year, will eventually do the job. It'll never be completely clean, but it'll never get completely dirty either.

Hi I wondered if u can help me I stumbled across your pictures of gearbox overhauling as it was the closest thing I could find regarding my problem.
I have recently purchased a Vauxhall Astra 1.6l Automatic and in no time at all I have lost complete drive noforward, reverse anything,I only have a basic Knowledge of cars and I noticed 2 dipsticks, one of these is bone dry not the engine oil one,but the other,my question is is it automatic transmission fluid dipstick and if so how do I fill it,could this be the answer as to why I have no drive on the car.

Probably, yes. It is filled through the dipstick. Check your handbook for how much should be in there. Once up to level you should get all your gears back. Check this regularly as it may be that you have a leak...

Thanks for the Info on changing transmission oil

My 2003 Opel Omega B gear box got broke down due to low fliud in the system and I bought a new gear box and the vehicle is back on the road, I would like to know how often is the transmission oil to be changed and also I have been using Total Automatic transition fliud (ATX) is it also good for the vehicle as that is the best option in Ghana, Thanks
