Set about doing one of these on friday. First time for everything. Car came in as a non runner. Customer requested timing chain be replaced as they had been told about the camshaft error code and been on Google

So, subframe down, engine and gearbox out and split, clutch and flywheel removed. Sump, sump cradle, rocker cover and timing covers removed and stripped of sealant (thank god for apprentices :sneaky:)

Timing chain replaced, had to set the valve timing up with compressed air o_O daft idea. All sealed and put back together and... still won't start.

Checked everything I could think off without stripping it too much. Took plugs out and they were having a little swim down in the cylinders. Had a sniff and it smelt like petrol but not a very strong smell. To cut a long story short I decided to take a fuel sample and this is what came out

Dirty fuel and a whole lot of water. Day and a half's worth of work for nothing. Will find out tomorrow exactly how much is in there and try to figure out where it came from (n)

It's an 05 plate, one of those bug eyes ones. I've noticed just by removing the fuel cap that the filler neck is quite rotten. First job tomorrow is to remove the sender unit and check the tank
