Fitted a towbar now fast indicators?

Today as a New Year treat I fitted a witter towbar. :) I used a dedicated Renault wiring loom.

Using my bike rack to test it it all works fine when plugged in but when nothing is plugged into the towbar electrics the van indicators flash too fast just like when a bulb has blown, however all indicators work.

Yet when I put on the hazards the indicators flash at the usual speed. I have recently replaced the hazard switch

If I disconnect the earth strap on the dedicated loom (screwed to the body by the rear rectangular hole on the n/s rear) the indicators work fine.

I have triple checked all the wiring and everything is correct. I assume the fast indicator speed is a warning that something isn't right. Any ideas?

Thanks and Happy New Year

Yes! I thought that's what you had done, but was just making sure!
I checked this type this morning and couldn't see any reason for it to go wrong, pretty simple.
My first thought was that the rear indicators are now acting as if they are the trailers and as there are no trailer lights connected the van thinks it only has front ones?
What are the two wires in the plug/socket with spade terminals on for, are they to tell when the plug is connected?
Maybe worth checking this again, in that the wires are in positions 1 & 2 ? if they where in maybe 2 & 3 it could work backwards?
Mine has the bypass relay!

Thanks. Contacting the supplier is my next course. There looks like a plastic spring clip in the socket that does something to the contact
of those two seperate brown wires, maybe that is dicky? I think the rapid indicator flash is a conforming warning these days instead of a buzzer.

:) so you actually mean that the switch in the socket if faulty would think a trailer is attached but no indicator lights and then flash them fast, which is exactly what you have ?
If you've got time I'd try disconnecting the two brown wires in the socket and then try it, if no difference? try connecting them together.
Having a meter at this point would be good to work out whether it should be normally closed or open, but I'm sure you could work it out by putting the wires on the different terminals and trying it!
