I'm due to pick up a 61 plate exclusiv 2.2 AWD shortly , when going into sign the finance I was asked to sign a disclaimer regarding the DPF . I duly signed it without giving it much thought at the time . However reading up on antara forums it seems to be rather a big issue with many unhappy owners . To make matters worse the car has previously been an ex- demonstrator . The usual test route is 4 mile long dual carriageway (A666 Bolton) and A roads . After 6 months demonstrator use it was sold on to a private buyer, its total mileage now stands at 14,000 miles . On me test driving the car it drove lovely but I did notice it had a orange warning light ( oil can with spanner I think ?!) . When questioning the sales rep he said it was due a service and it would be taken care of . I'm now wondering if the oil light was on due to failed regeneration and the oil then becoming diluted / contaminated , alarm bells are starting to ring in my head , am I worrying over nothing or am I right to have concerns ? How do I know the DPF isn't already close to failure . The car does have 15 month warranty remaining but if the DPF is excluded I could potentially be hit with a big bill when it isn't me who has caused it ! Ironically the car I'm trading in is an insignia CDTI which also has a DPF and covered 56,000 mile and it has never given me any trouble !
Also the antara doesn't come with a spare wheel I occasionally tow a caravan and want a full size spare on a 18" rim , sales rep is convinced it will fit in the tyre well in the boot can anyone confirm this for me, I don't want tyre compressor/sealant or a space saver options if a full size spare will fit . Thanks in advance for any views /advice

You have to sign the disclaimer . This shows that the dealer has made you aware of the DPF and that your happy that the type of driving the car will undertake is suitable for DPF equipped car . If dealer sold you the car and you explained you only did short stop / start journeys in town to dealer and you suffered DPF problems then dealer would be failing in his duty to supply you the correct car for your needs .

Thanks guys I do 1000 miles a month at present most of it on motorway / dual carriageway wasn't worried till they shoved a disclaimer in front of me , I'm sure I didn't sign anything when I picked up the insignia 18 months ago ? I'll try and stop worrying and hopefully enjoy the antara I pick it up tomorrow afternoon

Why would it be due a service at 14K? I think your right about the number of failed regens, the car then needs an early oil change.

How this will affect the life span of the DPF I don't know.

If it was me, and if your buying from wilsons I would check the car out fully before taking it and insist they at least perform a workshop regen as well as the oil change.

The warning light mentioned is the oil life condition indicator which would seem to be confirmation of the short journeys because it degrades the oil more rapidly. It is normally reset at the service but does not require an OBD unit plugging in to do this as it is done with a combination of indicator arm position and ignition on/off. Careful that you don't get fobbed off!

Picked up car this afternoon , car has had full service done yesterday & 2 new tyres fitted to the front as they were down to the wear markers ( mileage is 16,000 not 14,000 ) . The car looks immaculate inside and out , they had also fitted premium mats , agreed to swap my personal reg number over and included a detachable towbar , rather than giving me ÂŁ500 of fuel that was an offer they had on . I was a bit disappointed the sales lad hadn't sorted out a spare tyre for me , he reckoned ÂŁ50 for the steel rim plus the cost of a tyre . I will see if he sorts it when dvla sort reg number out & I go to have my plates put on . First impressions of the car are good , drives well but I miss some of the extras that my SE insignia had . I'm a bit gutted that there is no USB connection for aux device just a jack plug . Can't wait to see if it tows as well as I hope it does ! Thanks for advice , fingers crossed the DPF filter has a long life . Was surprised to see how much the service plan cost had gone up from ÂŁ25 a month on the insignia to ÂŁ38 on the antara ?!

The mileage for changing the front tyres is low for an Antara which would seem to indicate that it has done a lot of town rather motorway driving. I've done almost 20k in my 2012 AWD 2.2 manual and the Hankooks are only half worn but about 75% is m-way. The swop out for the fuel seems reasonable but the first service is only an oil & filter change, levels, pressures etc. Vauxhall price is around ÂŁ290.00 for the first service but it's the hourly rate that has gone up so much - probably around ÂŁ100.00 per hour now + vat! Vauxhall are having another revamp on the 'look' of the dealerships next year which will cost the dealers (not Vauxhall) a lot of money, which is why we end up paying through the nose. I am lucky as I used to work for my local dealer and get a good 'mates rate'. DPF's have been a problem since they were introduced if you only do local mileage; always make sure that you give a good run on the motorway in varied driving to keep it clear. Enjoy your new car.

Cheers for the info shadow , the tyres were Dunlop sportmax they were worn on the outside edges but looked ok in the centre I didn't fancy taking the hit for replacing them was glad when they offered to put fresh rubber on to clinch the deal . The replacement tyres are indeed hankooks so hope to get better mileage out of them . The service was a main service it had an interim service last October at 11,000 miles . I'm hoping to get 12 months trouble free motoring now ?! I think I will opt to do local short runs in the wife's ford KA no DPF to worry over on that car !

Hi , I thought it was key in ignition and press the accelerator pedal to the floor 3 times in five seconds ? Can't remember where I read that but there is definitely a way of clearing it without using OBD port and laptop . Recommend you do an oil change though as the light comes on for a reason !

my oil change light came on at 11k but luckly was 11 month old so just had first service early but doing more miles now so want to change oil myself at 10k and reset light then at 1 year or 20k will have service at dealers
the antara will never make 20k before service due to dpf which was not told when purchased and when light comes on they want ÂŁ165 just to drop oil (no chance)
so would be handy to know how to do it

Yes , indeed mine came on at 16,000 it had the oil changed at 12,000 . Dealer did oil change and reset warning light was lucky I spotted it before signing up for the car or I'd be ÂŁ160 worse off ! Shame I never saw how he reset it . Have you tried ignition on press and hold down both brake and accelerator pedal for 20 seconds , apparently it works on all euro 5 compliant Ford DPF's , maybe vauxhall is the same ?

Dealer's estimate of ÂŁ50 for the steel wheel rim turned into ÂŁ224inc tyre with discount ?! Hmm highway robbery springs to mind you really can't trust these car salesmen they promise all sorts and deliver very little . I guess I will be going elsewhere next time . Still not got number plate sorted although I have log book with personal reg number on it I have no tax disc yet , I was told until I get the tax disc I can't change over number plate .

Had the same problem with Bristol street motors over swapping the wife's reg no over . Just got the juke plated up today and new tax disc in . When we bought from skoda dealer it was swapped and all completed before we collected the car . So why it took this crew 2 months is a mystery !

I was told it is due to the dvla offices moving . I have a log book and reg plates made up for personal number just no road tax disk although the original tax disc is in date . My insurance will let me change reg details over without any admin charges ( a pleasant result - most insurance companies are all for making extra money !)

Hi all. New Antara owner. I haven't got the time to search through the reams of answers re oil, so could any one please tell me; must I put DEXOS engine brand oil in my 2.2 Antara?

Or can I use any other Low Saps oil? Vehicle is out of warranty as 13 plate and I'm now second owner and not sure what previous owner put in. Vehicle was serviced by Vauxhall dealership, so I'm thinking they may have gone down the DEXOS route and emptied the previous owners pockets of cash in doing so.

Any help gratefully received. :)

Dexos 1 or 2 isn't that expensive to buy , you can however use an equivalent grade & spec from another brand , for instance i use comma oils in my engines & ran to many a high milage with no issues .
